'Know Pain Know Gain'

The problem of pinpointing pain

Can't wait for the next video?

Did you know pain is often due to a variety of causes and cannot be attributed solely to physical or mental influences?

Do you struggle with clients who don’t believe previous injuries can impact and increase pain, even when resolved?

High Performance Manager with the Adelaide Crows AFL club, Darren Burgess, does – and, in fact, he was once just as sceptical about this crucial aspect of contemporary pain science.

Now Darren’s mindset has changed, and he’s seen vast benefits from adopting an enlightened approach.

Darren said: “Grasping that pain isn’t necessarily due to injury or tissue damage is hard for most people. I’ve been there myself. With education and evidence, it is possible to change minds. This makes the trainer’s job easier because you can return clients’ confidence and get them back to training and improving performance much more quickly.”

With personal experience of the journey from sceptic to contemporary pain science convert, Darren can provide insights on how to achieve a change in mindset, liberating performers from fear, stagnation and prolonged rest and recovery they may not need.

Darren will appear as a panellist at Less Pain Better Performance, a four-day online program aimed at anyone training others to achieve their personal best.

After Darren’s session, participants will…

Better understand the intersection of training and contemporary pain science, helping to create more productive training sessions.

Recognise the multi-faceted nature of pain and its origins, particularly in performers.

Feel confident educating performers and sportspeople, some of whom may be sceptical, about the importance of acknowledging pain’s complexity and why it doesn’t always relate to an injury.
